 CURRICULUM VITAE

     He was born at Peristeri in Attica in 1961, where he successfully completed his encyclical studies. He is a graduate of the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Athens (1980-1983) and of the School of Theology of the University of Athens - Department of Theology (1983-1987).

      In 1988 he was ordained Deacon and received a scholarship (1988-1991) from the Roman Catholic Church ("Comité catholique de collaboration culturelle") for Postgraduate studies in Rome (Pontificio Instituto Orientale and Pontificio Universita Gregoriana). In 1990 he received his Master's degree in Patristic and Byzantine Theology and the Ecumenical Movement, with the grade "Excellent" (Summa cum Laude/with highest praise). At the same time, he attended courses in Greek Palaeography and Diplomatics at the "Scuola di Paleografia Diplomatica e Archivistica" of the Vatican State.

     During the years 1990-1991, as a grant holder again of the Roman Catholic Church, he attended the third cycle of postgraduate studies (Doctoral Diploma, PhD) at the University of Strasbourg (Faculté de Théologie Catholique) where he carried out  his doctoral thesis on the subject: "Les figures Géométriques du Mystère de la Sainte Trinité à Byzance (1204-1274)". In November 1990 he was ordained Presbyter and received the Office of Archimandrite.          

     In 1995, he was nominated Doctor of Theology, from the Department of Theology, on the subject: "The theological terminology and problematic of the Pneumatology of the Patriarch Gregory II of Cyprus", with grade "Very Good".

     In June 1999 he was elected Lecturer of the Department of Theology at the University of Athens, School of Theology, in the Department of Patristic Studies, History of Doctrines and Symbolism in the field of “Patristic Theology with edition of texts of Ecclesiastical Authors” and in June 2002 he was elected Assistant Professor at this Department, in the field of "Patrology”. In 2005, according to the decision of the Department of Theology, he became a permanent member of the Teaching and Research Personnel of the University of Athens. In July 2007, he was elected Professor in the field of "History of Doctrines and Symbolic".

            During the years 1995-1998 he served as Secretary to the "Synodal Committee of the Office for the Relations of the Church of Greece with the European Union" and to the "Special Synodal Committee for the Monitoring of European Issues", of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece (1998-1999), as Vicar and Regular Preacher in the Holy Diocese of Peristeri (1988-1995) and in the Holy Archdiocese of Athens (1995-2007). In March 2007 he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy Metropolitan of Messinia.

 He was Member of the Permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, during the years 2012-2013 and 2019-2020, and Regular member: a) The Synodal Committee on Doctrinal and Legal Issues, of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, for the period 2003-2024. b) The Special Synodal Committee for European Issues, for the period 2004-2007. c) The Delegation of the Church of Greece in the International Theological Committee of the Official Dialogue between the Orthodox and the Roman Catholics (2002 up today). d) The three-member Delegation of the Church of Greece in the Permanent and Plenary Committee of the "Faith and Order" Department of the World Council of Churches. e) Member of the Board of Directors of the Orthodox Center of the Church of Greece for the period 2007-2010. f) The Special Synodal Committee for the teaching of the Religious Studies course. g) Of the Central Board of Directors of the Apostolic Ministry of the Church of Greece during the years 2012-2013 and 2019-2020, and h) Member of the Scientific Committee of the scientific journal BYZANTINA of the Center for Byzantine Research of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

            By decision of the Ministers of National Education and Religious Affairs, he was appointed member of the Supreme Scientific Council, the Supreme Ecclesiastical Academies and the Greek Delegation for the Academic Working Alliance at the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

             In 2022 he was declared Corresponding Member of the Society of Macedonian Studies.

        He also represented both the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Church of Greece, in Orthodox Conferences and Conventions and in Inter-Church Missions.

            He speaks French and Italian and he is proficient in English.
